Fasting Index

Does it break a fast?

A neutral reference for fasting questions. Every answer is split by why you are fasting, because that is what actually decides it.

One question, five answers

Bone broth is fine on a gut-rest protocol, disqualifying for autophagy, and not permitted before a fasting blood test. Three correct answers to three different questions.

Weight loss
Calorie restriction. What matters is energy intake.
Autophagy
Cellular cleanup. Protein and amino acids matter more than calories.
Blood work
A medical fast before a test. Follow your clinic, not the internet.
Ketosis
Staying in fat-burning. Carbohydrate is the deciding factor.
Gut rest
Digestive rest. Almost anything with substance counts.

Why this exists

Search whether a supplement breaks your fast and nearly every answer is published by a company that sells it. On one query we checked, six of the eight sources Google cited were supplement retailers writing about their own product.

Fasting Index sells no supplements and takes no affiliate revenue from anything it assesses. Where the evidence is thin, it says so instead of picking the answer that sells better.
